"Concrete promises are not given during such meetings and the process is lengthy, but the Chinese agriculture minister promised that the process of opening the market will continue," he told BNS by phone from Slovenia after meeting with Changfu as part of the 16+1 forum bringing together 16 Central and East European Countries and China.

For Lithuania, it is currently important that China open up its market to beef and cereal product exports.

Markauskas added that the Chinese minister promised to visit Lithuania in the spring of 2018, when the country will organize the 16+1 forum.

The so-called 16+1 was established in 2012 as China's initiative to boost cooperation with Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia.
