Qatar Chamber and LCCI to expand trade relations

Senior officials from Qatar Chamber (QC), country’s oldest and largest private industry representative body, and the visiting members of Pakistan’s Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) held discussions yesterday to expand and deepen business and investment opportunities between the two countries.  
Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of QC, received Nasira Taskeen, member of the Executive Committee of LCCI and the accompanying delegation, who are here to explore investment opportunities and establishing partnerships in the Qatari market in various fields, including food, agriculture and pharmaceuticals sector.
Al Kuwari explained that there is a desire by the private sector and business owners to increase their investments in the food industry, calling on the Pakistani side to study the investment opportunities in the Qatari market in the field of food, medicine and agriculture.
He noted that the QC is keen to strengthen communication with the Pakistani business community in the interests of the private sector in both countries. He pointed out the importance of mutual visits and business meetings organised by Qatar Chamber and Lahore Chamber aims at opening up wider horizons for cooperation between the two sides.
On her part Taskeen said that the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is famous for agriculture and has expertise in food security programme. Pakistan also has experience and know-how in the field of hydroponic and hydroponic aquaculture, which represents great opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in this regard.
She also noted that the pharmaceutical industry is one of the most promising sectors of the Pakistani economy, which export medicines to overseas, including Europe and other parts of the world.
Taskeen also invited Qatari businessmen and requested QC to organise a visit to the city of Lahore, the capital city of the Pakistani province of Punjab, to explore and identify investment opportunities available in a number of sectors characterized. It is the second-most populous city in Pakistan after Karachi.
Two top Pakistani pharmaceutical companies, including Martin Dow Pharmaceuticals, in August this year announced to set up drug manufacturing facilities in Qatar within a year. Martin Dow is a leading drug manufacturing company in Pakistan which also owns two plants in France.
