Events Industry Council announces Tina Wehmeir of AMC Institute as new board chair

Tina Wehmeir has an extensive background in the hospitality industry and in leadership roles with associations and association management companies (AMCs).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Events Industry Council announced that Tina Wehmeir, CMP, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the AMC Institute, is the new chair of the Board of Directors, effective 1 July 2018 through December 2019.

Ms. Wehmeir has an extensive background in the hospitality industry and in leadership roles with associations and association management companies (AMCs). As CEO, Tina oversees the complete management of the AMC Institute. Formerly, she was the Senior Vice President of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) and Chief Development officer of Feeding Tomorrow, IFT’s Foundation. She has served as Managing Partner of Talley Management Group, Inc. and was also the Executive Director for the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC). Additionally, she was the Vice President of Industry Relations for Gaylord Hotels and held the position of Executive Director of Global Sales Offices for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. Tina began her career with Loews Hotels and held various marketing and sales positions in the United States.

“With more than 25 years of experience with associations and in the hospitality industry, Tina brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board. Tina has been an engaged member of the council for several years and has served on the CMP Governance Commission in the past also. Her knowledge of the council and our signature programmes makes her a great choice to lead the organisation into the future,” said Karen Kotowski, CMP, CAE, CEO of the Events Industry Council.  

In addition to Tina’s role as chair of the board of the Events Industry Council, she also serves on many other industry boards. Tina serves on the executive committee of the Meetings Mean Business Coalition (MMBC), the board of the U.S. Travel Association and is involved in the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership).

I’m excited to take on the role of chair in the organisation’s global growth trajectory. I look forward to supporting the Board of Directors and staff in these efforts in the coming year,” shared Tina Wehmeir, CMP, CAE, Chief Executive Officer, AMC Institute. 

Susan Robertson, CAE, who has led the council since January 2017 will assume the role of Immediate Past Chair. During her tenure, she led the organisation through substantial changes including a name change, brand evolution and transition to a new management company.
