The Times of Malta has reported on the violent manner in which horses are being illegally killed. Such articles sadden me.

The animals being killed would, in their majority, be racehorses from Sweden and France, since both are known for the production of thoroughbreds. It is horses that repeatedly do not do well or are injured that are slaughtered. Whenever it becomes known that the meat from a young horse is available, it sells like hot cheesecakes because of its tenderness.

All racehorses are designed to pace like trotters, consequently, if they are no longer useful for racing, they are of no use to polo players either. Though they would have loved to have such retired racehorses because of their strength, playing polo with them is hard because the animals will not break into a canter or gallop but just trot.
