Ypsilanti Community Schools Launches New Food Assistance Program During Pandemic

Ypsilanti Community Schools

Ypsilanti Community Schools has a new program to help feed those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s called “Family Food Box Program” and provides a full box of fruits and vegetables to anyone in the community with food insecurity.  You don’t have to have a child at the school district to get a free box.  Tiffany Houston is the director of food services for the district and says the program allows them to provide residents with healthy food they may not be able to afford at supermarkets.

Tiffany Houston: A lot of our fresh produce is more expensive than the processed food.

A partnership with the United States Department of Agricultureallows the district to provide 200 boxes every Tuesday from now until June 30th.  Residents can pick up the boxes on a first-come first-serve basis from noon to 2 p.m. at Willow Run Middle School.
