A street food van business from Leamington has published a toastie recipe book after being unable to cater throughout the first coronavirus lockdown.

The Jabberwocky had an exciting 2020 ahead of it, with pitches booked at Glastonbury, Leamington Peace Festival, Art in the Park and other big events.

However the pandemic took that away in a heartbeat, so chef Barny Luxmoore took advantaged of the cancelled events and continued work on a project which he started five years ago - a recipe book named The Toastie Construction Manual.

It’s a simple toastie recipe book, but each sandwich is illustrated like a car repair handbook - with an exploded diagram to walk people through assembly.

It also contains illustrations to explain any necessary cooking techniques, along with cheats, tips and tricks from seasoned chef Barny, who prior to cooking more than 100,000 toasties spent five years as the head chef of Merchants in Warwick - one of the top three Warwick restaurants on Trip Advisor at the time.

Barny has also received an award this year, with one of his toasties winning a heat in the National Sandwich awards.

His creation, the Korean Wrapsody, is a tortilla filled with bo sam pork, homemade kimchi, ginger and spring onion sauce and gochujang mayo.

It won Barny £500 in prize money and a trophy.

The Manual is available to buy on Amazon and directly from the Jabberwocky's website.

Copies bought directly from the website will be sent in upcycled, plastic free packaging and delivered on foot where possible.
