CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Harrison County Commission will consider funding requests at its next meeting, among other items on the agenda.
The meeting will kick off at 10 a.m. Wednesday with an agenda item regarding Frontier Communications’ fiber cable in Harrison County.
Commission President Susan Thomas said she believes the company is planning to run fiber into the county.
“It’s supposed to be something that’s going to be good for their customers,” she said.
Commissioners also will consider expanding the time the courthouse is open to the public, moving back to the pre-pandemic hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The courthouse has been open to the public for reduced hours since last year’s closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. The commission voted in August to move up the opening time to 9 a.m. It had been opening at 9:30 a.m. prior to that.
The purpose for adjusting the hours was to allow staff time to get into the building before the public to help minimize congestion going through the security area.
Thomas said with most of the state opening up, she had no problem going back to the courthouse’s normal hours.
Commissioners also will consider a bond authorizing resolution that would authorize issuance of bonds to refinance 2015 bonds and fund the final phase of development at the White Oaks tax increment financing district.
The commission meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the commission hearing room on the third floor of the Harrison County Courthouse. The public may also attend and give public comment via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7628160712, or by teleconference at 1-888-788-0099. The meeting ID is 762 816 0712 and the passcode is 270967.
The designated public comment period is typically held early in the meeting.
In other business, the commission will:
— Consider a $5,000 funding request to help purchase equipment for Harrison County Schools’ meat and poultry processing lab that is to be constructed on the South Harrison High School campus.
“The animal processing courses will be available to all 912 agriculture students in the county. Students would be eligible for four industry certifications from the American Meat Science Association and the Range Meat Academy,” according to instructor John Lockhart, who filed the funding application.
The total project cost is over $250,000, according to the application.
— Consider a $2,000 funding request from the town of West Milford to help cover entertainment costs for the town’s bicentennial celebration, currently scheduled for July 31 at the West Milford Community Center.
— Consider acceptance of a $6,000 West Virginia Department of Agriculture grant for the spay and neuter assistance program.
— Consider Sheriff’s Office budget revisions.
— Consider a resolution authorizing the establishment of a new fund and corresponding bank account for American Rescue Plan Act funds. The federal legislation requires the establishment of the separate fund and account to ensure there is no commingling of funds.
