Craving something fried but feeling guilty about indulging in unhealthy snacks? If your go-to is usually crispy fried chicken, hold onto your taste buds because there’s a new trend in town that might just change your mind – fried dandelion flowers!

A recent video posted by @saloma_hershberger on Instagram has sparked both curiosity and controversy as she demonstrates how to turn these vibrant yellow flowers into a delectable fried snack.

Watch the video below:

The process begins with harvesting fresh dandelions from the garden and washing them thoroughly to remove any impurities. Once cleaned, the flowers are allowed to dry completely, while a simple batter is prepared using eggs and milk, along with a flavourful flour mixture seasoned with black pepper, lemon pepper, fajita seasoning, garlic powder, and herb and garlic salt.

With a hot pan greased with butter or oil, the dandelion flowers are dipped in the batter, coated with the seasoned flour, and fried until golden and crispy.

One user wrote, “How I got my dandelions to taste like chicken. . I fed them to the chickens first, and then ate the chicken.” Another user went on to say, “No matter what you do to dandelions they will still taste like dandelions. But you can definitely learn to like them, i cooked some last summer, they were pretty good but I burnt them lol. This year I think I’ll try to make honey out of them instead.”

And a third user commented on the video saying, “So close, actually it tastes like flowers . Hope this helps!”

Festive offer

According to the creator, these dandelion fritters not only satisfy cravings for fried snacks but also offer surprising health benefits, being rich in vitamins, minerals, and fibre.

Dandelion greens have a long history as a cherished food. They have been consumed since ancient times, by the Greeks and Romans. In Europe, dandelion leaves, often served on buttered bread, have been a dietary staple.
