Bowling Green Seeks Grant Funding for Barren River Whitewater Park Project

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – The City of Bowling Green Board of Commissioners has recently approved a grant application to help fund the Barren River Whitewater Park Project at the the Riverfront park in downtown Bowling Green.

The grant is through the National Park Service and, if approved, will cover $3.6 million of the estimated $7.2 million cost to build the infrastructure for the whitewater park. The nearest whitewater parks are 4 and a half hours from Bowling Green, located in Dayton, Ohio and Chattanooga, Tennessee. This park will provide a whitewater activities for an estimated 9.3 million people who live within the surrounding area. After receiving nearly 3000 online feedback responses it was determined that whitewater activities was a top priority for for the future of Riverfront Park.
