American Dream plans Asian food fest, Tamagotchi scavenger hunt

One of the largest Asian in the U.S. is coming back to for a second year in a row.

Scheduled to run from March 28-30 at the East Rutherford megamall, Dream Asia Food Fest will feature more than 90 vendors offering cuisines representing East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central Asia. The lineup of over 500 dishes will include small plates for under $6 and options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets.

Maryland-based event promotion and production company Festive Planet organizes the festival. According to the company, it aims to showcase the vibrant flavors and cultures of Asia, as well as support small businesses and emerging talent.

Additionally, Dream Asia Food Fest will have a cultural bazaar set up with 36 vendors selling traditional crafts, modern goods, souvenirs and exclusive Anime NYC merchandise.

There will also be entertainment, such as K-pop performances, lion dances, Japanese Taiko drumming and a lantern parade, and interactive family-friendly workshops for lantern making and tea ceremonies.

The Dream Asia Food Fest will run from noon to 11 p.m. all three days in parking lot 26 at the American Dream.

Children age 10 and under can attend for free. General admission tickets, which include single-day entry with access to all vendors, performances and workshops, are $12. VIP tickets featuring unlimited re-entry and access to exclusive areas cost $45.

On the hunt

American Dream also has another offering planned for the same weekend — a mall-wide scavenger hunt inspired by Tamagotchi.

As part of the “Tamagotchi Spring Celebration,” fans of the handheld virtual pet toy brand will also be able to enjoy Tamagotchi-themed face painting, a portrait studio, temporary tattoos, nail art and cotton candy featuring their favorite characters.

Additionally, a dedicated space will sell Tamagotchi items, while also directing guests to the Bandai store at American Dream for even more finds.

The event will be take place March 29-30 from noon to 5 p.m. on level one, courts B and C.

Tara Badie, senior director of brand strategy at Bandai Namco Toys & Collectibles America, Tamagotchi’s parent company, described the celebration as “a very special opportunity to experience the brand as it lives today – with unique experiences that families will remember and cherish for a lifetime.”

“Our Spring event at the American Dream is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Tamagotchi brand and its fans of all ages,” she said.
