WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – The West Richland Police Department, the West Richland Community Care Foundation and Meals on Wheels are partnering to hold a pet food drive to celebrate WRPD therapy K9 Polar’s fourth birthday.

All donated dog and cat food will go to West Richland senior pet owners in need.

Two local middle schools, Enterprise and Libby, will also be competing starting April 9 to see who can gather the most weight in donations by April 29. The winner will be announced on April 30, National Therapy Animal Day.

Students and staff can donate at a bin at their schools, while the public can drop off donations in the WRPD lobby, located at 7920 W. Van Giesen St.

Unopened bags or cans of food and bags of treats are needed, with all brands accepted. Lightweight bags are preferred and helpful for senior participants.

Those who want to give Polar a birthday gift can drop them off as well. WRPD says he enjoys pig ears, antler chews, frozen dried treats and extra durable toys.
