He briefly threw off suggestions he was a madman after his statesmanlike meetings with Donald Trump and other world leaders.

But after talks broke down it hasn't taken long for North Korea's Kim Jong-un to return to his crazy ways.

According to reports, he recently executed one of his generals by throwing him into a fish tank full of flesh-eating piranhas imported from Brazil.

The tank had been built specifically in Kim's Pyongyang presidential palace for his new method of execution.

Many believe he was inspired by the 1977 James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, where villain Karl Stromberg kills his enemies by dropping them into an aquarium filled with sharks.

He we look at some of the other weird things that make crazy Kim the world's craziest dictator...

His real age is a mystery

He is thought to be the world's youngest ruler, but no one has any clue to Kim’s actual birthday.

The the youngest son of the late "supreme" leader, Kim Jong-il, it is believed that he was either born in 1983 or 1984.

The US Treasury Department, in 2016, lists his birth date as January 8, 1984, with some believing Kim prefers that people think he is older than he really is.

He got the job because of his looks

Kim was unveiled as "the great successor" to his dictator father in 2010, when he was made a four-star general despite having NO military experience.

Reports claimed Kim was made the heir partly because he looks like Kim Il-Sung, the founder of North Korea.

Some watchers even said the young Kim had had plastic surgery to increase the resemblance between them.

Kim succeeded Kim Jong-Il to become the country's new "Dear Leader" after his father died of a heart attack in December 2011.

He once ate too much cheese

Kim fell in love with Swiss cheese when he was a student in Switzerland.

The tubby leader has become hooked on Emmental, spending much of his day eating it in fondues, gratins, raclettes and sandwiches.

His cheese addiction is believed to have caused him to balloon in size, and started to walk with a limp because of his condition.

He has also sent envoys to France to try to enrol North Korean cooks on cheese-making courses.

In 2014, Kim reportedly had to briefly retreat from public life after eating too much Emmental cheese, after a large shipment of it arrived from Switzerland.

He formed his own girl band

One of the most famous girl bands in North Korea is called Moranbong.

The band, known for their military uniform-style costumes, extravagant shows and synthesizer-backed anthems, were among the country’s delegation to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea last year.

Kim founded the band himself in 2012, and reportedly handpicked the group’s ten singers himself.

A year later, the girls were all put on a regimented diet to standardise their waistlines, according to North Korea watchers Sino-NK.

And not surprisingly, most of the girl band’s songs appear to be about the North Korean leader himself.

“How can he be so kind,” the lyrics to one ballad go.

“His smile is so warm and sweet. I have no choice but to be taken by him and his warm heart.”

He loves basketball

Kim supports the Chicago Bulls basketball team and Michael Jordan is one of his heroes.

The dictator also has a peculiar friendship with former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who has been to visit Kim in North Korea several times.

He once executed someone for falling asleep

Kim was not pleased when his defence minister Hyon Yong Chol fell asleep during a military event.

He accused him of treason and had him publicly executed watched by hundreds of state officials.

It is believed he was blown apart after being fired on by six ZPU-4 anti-aircraft guns.

He ordered North Koreans to cut their hair like his

In 2015 North Korean authorities issued an order requiring men to keep their hair no longer than 2cm, while woman were required to keep their hair bobbed.

Young men have been told to model their hairstyle on the supreme leader’s own eccentric style, where the sides and back of the head are almost clean shaven and only the top is left.

Young men are supposed to wear their hair in a bobbed cut like Kim’s wife Ri Sol-ju.

Only performers are now allowed to grow their hair, according to reports.

A Pyongyang source said that the order was being enforced in the country’s universities, where “university student monitors are walking around with scissors and cutting off the hair of offenders.”

Kim himself, however, is believed to be scared of barbers, so he cuts his own hair.

He has murdered his own family members

In December 2012 Kim ordered the execution of his uncle, Jang Song-theak, who was accused of crimes against the state.

Those crimes including adultery, spending foreign currency at a casino when being treated abroad and "dreaming alternative dreams" to the rest of the North Korean population.

He is said to have been executed by firing squad - although rumours circulated claiming he had been fed to a pack of wild dogs.

And in 2017 he is believed to have ordered the assassination of his half-brother Kim Jong-nam, who was attacked with VX nerve agent at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

A new book claimed this week that he was working as an informant for the CIA before the killing.

He travels with his own toilet...

Kim knows the stools can tell a lot about him, such as what he ate for lunch and any diseases he might have.

So everywhere he goes he takes his own toilet with him.

It is believed the practise stems from the leader’s fear that foreign agents will use his stools to help their states take advantage of North Korea.

...but never has to use it

Or at least that’s what the North Korean people have been told.

Among the claims made by state media about Kim is that he doesn’t need to defecate or urinate, supporting the view that he is practically a god and supernatural in nature.

In an updated biography of the North Korean leader sent to schools in 2015, it was also claimed that Kim could drive by the time he was three, was winning yacht races at nine and was also an expert artists and musical composer while still a child.

In 1998 state media also claimed that his father, Kim Jong-il bowled a perfect 300 game at a bowling alley, and also shot a world-record score of 34 across 18 holes on a golf course in the country.

This round included eleven holes-in-one and not one hole with a score of more than a birdie.
