MATT FLENE EXPLAINS REPORTER:. JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY USED -- CITY UNION MISSION WAREHOUSE, THEY ARE DEALING WITH A BIG PROBLEM. ABOUT $50,000 WORTH OF FROZEN FOOD, THAT HAD TO GO STRAIGHT TO THIS DUMPSTER. >> LOOK AT THAT LOCK. REPORTER: NOT JUST ONE, BUT BROKEN LOCKS TO GET INSIDE THIS BUILDING AND THIS DEEP FREEZER, OWNED BY CITY UNION MISSION. AND WHAT DID THEY STEAL? >> THEY STOLE ABOUT $300 TO $500 WORTH OF FOOD BUT RUINED MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. REPORTER: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER JON CAPP, SAYS THIEVES BROKE INTO THIS DEEP FREEZE. STEALING SEVERAL PACKAGES OF FOOD, BUT RUINING MANY MORE. >> THE IRONY IS THAT WE GIVE FOOD AWAY TO PEOPLE THAT NEED FOOD. SO IT’S DIFFICULT TO HAVE THEM DAMAGE FOOD OR TAKE POTENTIAL FOOD FROM OTHER PEOPLE. REPORTER: THE WAREHOUSE IS NOT AIR CONDITIONED. >> SO ONCE THIS IS OPEN, THE TEMPERATURE RISES PRETTY QUICK, AND YOU KNOW WE CAN’T TAKE ANY CHANCES WITH FOOD. REPORTER: NOW THEY MUST RESTOCK. Thieves ruin $50,000 worth of food at City Union Mission's frozen food warehouse
Thieves broke into the City Union Mission's frozen food warehouse Thursday, taking hundreds of dollars' worth of food and ruined food worth thousands of dollars."About $50,000 worth of frozen food that had to go straight to this dumpster," said Jon Capp, City Union Mission's chief operating officer.The thieves broke three locks to get inside the building near Eighth Street and Highland Avenue."They stole about $300 to $500 worth of food but ruined (food worth ) many thousands of dollars," Capp said. "So, once this is open, the temperature rises pretty quick. You know, we can't take any chances with food."Now, City Union Mission must restock."The irony is that we give food away to people who need food so it's difficult to have them damage food or take potential food from other people," Capp said.

Thieves broke into the City Union Mission's frozen food warehouse Thursday, taking hundreds of dollars' worth of food and ruined food worth thousands of dollars.
