Melting Pot: Intimacy of a shared meal makes this Viera spot perfect for date night

Fondue is an experience at Viera restaurant

Time was when the special occasion or birthday gift was a fondue pot. Now it’s the Melting Pot.

Perhaps the ultimate special-occasions restaurant, the Melting Pot is known for a quiet atmosphere and intimacy brought about by sharing cheese, chocolate or other delights you prepare at your table always.

But the Melting Pot is more than that. It is a full-service restaurant with four-course dinners, big, fresh salads, an array of specialty cocktails and a nice patio that make it one of Viera’s favorite after-work locations.

And oh, that colorful, bubbling, melted goodness that is what general manager Jon Decker describes as “classic fondue with a modern twist.” How satisfying is it to spear a chunk of French bread and dip it into warm, oozy Alpine cheese, or to disrupt the yin and yang of light and dark chocolates in the same pot?”

Decker shared his thoughts about the Melting Pot.

What most inspired your menu? Our menu has evolved over the years. It is inspired by the traditions of the Europeans who first created the concept of fondue.

What’s the most surprising thing about your restaurant? Fondue has been around for many years, and we are always finding ways to make sure that we keep it modern.

What’s a typical day in your restaurant like? Lots of fun sipping and dipping.

Tell us about a unique feature of your building or dining room. Very romantic atmosphere, burners at the table for guests to enjoy their meals at a comfortable unrushed pace.

What does hospitality mean to you? Hospitality is always anticipating our guests’ needs and going beyond their expectations.  We offer many options for special celebrations.

What’s the strangest request you’ve ever had from a diner?  (A) ring on a lobster tail.

What’s one ingredient you can’t live without? Garlic makes everything better.

When not eating at your restaurant, what and where do you eat? I am a fan of Mediterranean-style foods, so anything Greek or Italian.

Describe the dining scene on the Space Coast. It is very eclectic. There are so many options for everyone.
